You Might be a Pervert if …

… the books that are carelessly strewn about your desk are:
Thy Neighbor’s Wife (Gay Talese, 1981) Someday, I’m going to get him to sign my copy. An inspiration and a table-setter for “Into Temptation.”
Sex in America: A Definitive Survey (Robert Michael, John Gagnon, Edward Laumann and Gina Kolata, 1994) The last comprehensive sex survey done in the U.S.
America Unzipped: In Search of Sex and Satisfaction (Brian Alexander, 2008) Great title and a good book. Even if Brian didn’t figure it all out, he had fun trying … or as much fun as a Good Boy could.
Skipping Toward Gomorrah: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Pursuit of Happiness (Dan Savage, 2002) Thanks especially, Dan, for pointing out, satirically, why Amurrica should be more afraid of Swingers than of Gay Marriage.
Mathematics and Sex (Clio Cresswell, 2003) Another great title, and Clio is that really you on the cover?
The LifeStyle: A Look at the Erotic Rites of Swingers (Terry Gould, 1999) The definitive book on swinging, pre-millennium.
Naked on the Internet: Hookups, Downloads and Cashing in on Internet Sexploration (Audacia Ray, 2007) The best book yet about sex on the Internet.
That’s just on my desk, here in Haydenville, Mass. I could go through my bookshelf, too, but that would be a much longer list and I think my point about being a pervert is made. Oops, there are a few more on the coffee table and a pile next to the TV, too …
Sometime this week or next I’m going to get around to ’splaining how I came to be writing “Into Temptation” and reading, or rereading, such tomes. But there’s a court case involving a swinger party in Connecticut to deconstruct and evolving plans to visit Toronto and Costa Rica, as well …
And I think I could spend the whole day writing funny sentences that start out with “You might be a pervert if …” and make a career out of throwaway jokes about perversion the same way Jeff Foxworthy made a career out of writing one-liners about rednecks, and maybe I will. Fish in a barrel, again.
I miss “Suck.”
"Into Temptation" is a usually-but-not-always safe-for-work forum about evolving social-sexual networks and how they have changed and are changing lives. It will also loosely chronicle the research, writing and publication, I hope in 2011, of a book by the same name.
