Lands of Human Sexuality

Posted By jss on January 24, 2009

Thank you Regina Lynn, for pointing me toward Franklin Veaux’s Map of the Lands of Human Sexuality, which serves to remind me of just how many sexual places I probably will never go. There are fetishes I had never heard of. (“Wartenberg Wheels“?) There are fetishes I didn’t know were fetishes (Human Furniture?) And, of course, there are all the fetishes that I’m simply not into. Fortunately, the SMC and I match up pretty well.

Nowhere on the map is my fantasy about making love, mostly unnoticed, in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower at dusk … on my own map, I’d need a much bigger area just to describe all the interesting places in which I’d like to have sex. Veaux’s map offers one way to map one’s sexual practices … in a way, putting those digital pins in place is creating an overlay for one’s sexual network. But my guess is that … well, it doesn’t scale  to the general population. The Land of Mundania  probably would need to be a lot bigger, the Straits of Fear, wider …

Hmmm, a project for some other day.

Clicky-click on the map below (or “more” and then the map if you’re on the front page) if you want to see where I pushed the pins in … I can’t say for sure that I got everything or if it’s truly representative, but it was fun to do. If you put up your own map somewhere, please comment with a link … we can all compare and contrast. :-)

  1. Goddamn this was so much fun to play with! It WAS fun to compare maps – I’m posting mine next week. Your pushpins are in distinct clusters – mine are all over the place, and more noticeable are the bare spots.

And I’ve played with the Wartenberg Wheel!

    Thanks Regina Lynn!

You've Been Tempted.

Shadowy "Into Temptation" is a usually-but-not-always safe-for-work forum about evolving social-sexual networks and how they have changed and are changing lives. It will also loosely chronicle the research, writing and publication, I hope in 2011, of a book by the same name.
