Craigslist.com Closing ‘Erotic Services’ Next Week

Posted By jss on May 13, 2009

The Daily News of New York headline speculates:

End to ‘online red light district’?

(emphasis theirs; it’s a tabloid, after all)

… as though Craigslist is the be-all and end-all of erotic services on the Internet. Which it’s not, of course, but various attorney generals and law enforcement types need to look as though they are doing something to stop psycho med school students from murdering masseuses and escorts who advertise on Craigslist. Because it happens so often.

Singling out Craigslist.com does not seem to me to be a way of making the world safer for escorts and masseuses, but maybe that’s just me. Certainly, the ad service is still in use; I see 72 w4m ads local to me. (Note: the link is probably only good until May 20,2009.)

Craigslist will apparently continue to offer an adult services section that will be monitored by employees. “Erotic Services” no longer takes new ads and will be shut down in a week.

You've Been Tempted.

Shadowy "Into Temptation" is a usually-but-not-always safe-for-work forum about evolving social-sexual networks and how they have changed and are changing lives. It will also loosely chronicle the research, writing and publication, I hope in 2011, of a book by the same name.

The author and editor? Jeff Schult | DWM | New England | ... We've dispensed with pseudoanonymity.
