Contraceptive that Prevents AIDS

Posted By jss on May 20, 2009

It sounds almost too good to be true … and it would be nice if they had aversion of it for men … but:

ScienceDaily (May 19, 2009) — Researchers from Weill Cornell Medical College have published results showing that a new contraceptive device may also effectively block the transmission of the HIV virus. Findings show that the device prevents infection by the HIV virus in laboratory testing. The promising results are published in the most recent issue of the journal AIDS.

I am sure there would be quite a few people in the United States who would be upset if there was a method of female birth control that also prevents AIDS transmission — because that would mean that women could behave like sluts! — but I’m all in favor of it, of course. Whether it makes women behave like sluts or not. :-)

Here’s the press release.

  1. “contraceptive device” – that sounds more lame than a condom. Sure enough, I peeked at the press release and saw it’s a ring that goes in the vagina and emits radioactive rays of hand sanitizer. Ha ha.

I’d think a female condom would be better than this – and those things are awkward and not sexy!

You've Been Tempted.

Shadowy "Into Temptation" is a usually-but-not-always safe-for-work forum about evolving social-sexual networks and how they have changed and are changing lives. It will also loosely chronicle the research, writing and publication, I hope in 2011, of a book by the same name.
