Facebook Sexgames Can’t Get It Up?

Update: The game is back online as of 9:35 a.m. EST. No censorship. No problem. The game was just AWOL overnight.

A few hundred thousand Facebookers have been going without virtual sex for … HOURS now, and they’re getting a little frantic.

Sexgames: High Stakes Seduction” is offline, has been since last night, and the developers have yet to issue so much as a “We’re working on it” memo to users.

The only clue I have suggests that there’s nothing wrong with the game — but hints that Facebook may have censored it. (As it turns out, they did not.)

Looking at the cached page on Google right now, I see:

Use of application “SexGames” has been restricted

We’re sorry, but this application is not available to you. Please visit the Application Directory to find other applications.

So, I’m thinking — maybe we’ve got a story here, though Google may just be seeing what it’s supposed to see when not logged in. The “Restricted” message formerly was shown to anyone who tried to look at the Sexgames main page whilst not logged on to Facebook. At the moment, that’s the page that Facebookers see as well. (I know this because I first wrote about Sexgames back in February.)

It might be nothing, and I’ll update this later. The group page for Sexgames says the game has 221,462 monthly active users, many of whom were counting on getting virtually laid this morning. From the comments on the group page:

i can’t get sex games neither. im going nuts

  1. Yeah I signed up for this and never used it. But I’m living it in real life, so I’m good, thanks.

You've Been Tempted.

Shadowy "Into Temptation" is a usually-but-not-always safe-for-work forum about evolving social-sexual networks and how they have changed and are changing lives. It will also loosely chronicle the research, writing and publication, I hope in 2011, of a book by the same name.
