Celebrity Sex Scandals … Who Can keep Up?

Posted By jss on October 3, 2009

We get a little jaded by celebrity and political sex scandals here at intotemptation.net. By “we,” I mean me, of course. Sure, they are grist for the blog mill. But I think I’ve made it clear that I think that celebrities and politicians are pretty much just like everybody else when it comes to sexual profligacy and stupidity.

I was asked about a week ago what I have to say about Mackenzie Phillips and her dad, John. I understand that Mackenzie wrote a book and mentioned that she had drug-addled sex with her dad a lot. And my reaction was … look around. Unfortunately, that is what fucked-up, drug-addled people *do*, a lot more often than other people.

Take a look at the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network statistics. And if you still think that whatever happened in the Phillips family is just kinky weirdo rock’n'roll Hollywood shit, not representative of the dark side of the American Family, we probably don’t have a lot to say to each other.

Then there is Nevada Sen. John Ensign. Woo!

Senator’s Aid After Affair Raises Flags Over Ethics

Pardon me if I think that maybe having an affair with your friend’s wife while employing both of them is perhaps more reprehensible than whatever John Phillips may or may not have done, which we’ll never know since he’s dead. Michelle Phillips, by the way, doubts Mackenzie’s story; and I’ve always thought Michelle *might* be the sanest of the extended Mamas/Papas clan. I’d say I’m unlikely to read Mackenzie’s book but I might have said the same thing about Maureen McCormick’s … and I confess, when it was right there in front of me, I needed to know the dirt on the Brady Bunch. There wasn’t much.

Oww ...

Oww ...

Then there is David Letterman, who gets points from me, maybe, for acknowledging that him having sex with people who worked for him was “creepy.” Then again, that may have been part of what he *had* to say, in terms of making peace with his audience. I don’t think we know, yet, that he did anything in particular that he should be sorry for, really, other than being forced into making his sex life public.

I like to think that one of my qualifications for writing intotemptation.net is my developing quasi-fearless “Been There, Done That” demeanor. But I’ve never had sex with a family member OR the spouse or girlfriend of a close friend OR with anyone I worked with who worked for me.

Well, that was close, huh? I wonder if I’m just too moral to live, sometimes.

You've Been Tempted.

Shadowy "Into Temptation" is a usually-but-not-always safe-for-work forum about evolving social-sexual networks and how they have changed and are changing lives. It will also loosely chronicle the research, writing and publication, I hope in 2010, of a book by the same name.

The author and editor? Jeff Schult | DWM | 52 | New England | ... We've dispensed with pseudoanonymity.
