Which sounds worse, “cheater” or “adulterer” ? The former is pretty broad; the latter really only applies to marriage.
The there are verbs. “Strayed” sounds like something your dog does …
And the adjectives: “Extramarital sex” … “non-connubial nookie” (I kinda like that …)
“Unilateral non-monogamy” …
“Cheat” is probably the most common word for what we’re talking about. “Fucking around” is common but mainstream media won’t touch the “F” word.
Anyway, what have you got? Is there a killer word or phrase I’m missing, related to having sex with someone when you’ve promised sexual fidelity to someone else?
I thought of that when I ran across an article about how guys feel when their girls cheat on them.
