Xaviera Hollander’s remembrance of Bob Guccione

hollander, guccioneBob Guccione was among the most important figures of the last 50 years in sexual culture, and the financial setbacks of his later years should not negate that. His Penthouse was, for a long time, younger, hipper and hotter than Playboy, back when both actually meant something.

This morning, I did what I do at SexIs, including editing and posting Lorna Keach’s take on the sex news of the day.

And somehow, by the end of the day, I’m exchanging emails with Xaviera Hollander and posting:

The Happy Hooker Remembers Bob Guccione

“It all started with a friendly phone call from Bob who had tracked me down to Amsterdam in 1971 …”

Journalism and reporting and writing are just funny that way, sometimes. There’s not a lot of money in it, but you end up meeting the most interesting people.

  1. I guess like really is funny, how things come together… It’s amazing how the most important people in the world make friends not that ordinary like prostitutes…

You've Been Tempted.

Shadowy "Into Temptation" has been a forum about evolving social-sexual networks and how they have changed and are changing lives. In other words, we talk about dating and sex.

The original intention was that this blog would also chronicle a book project on the same subject; but that is in flux, on hiatus, perhaps meant for another time.
