OK, so I’m thinking this is very damned funny.
The Naked Reader Book Club: That is So NOT Sexy!
It’s my third piece for SexIs.
And for my next one, I get to interview a porn star. So I guess they like me, huh?

But there are exceptions, and today I read an interview with an author who sounded like she had a book’s worth of important stuff to say about relationships and sex.

I’m reading, lately, Ariel Levy’s Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture, and am alternately deconstructing and enjoying it. I like her writing and reporting style. But pervasively, I think she overestimates the extent to which raunch is at the heart of American culture, even sexual culture. Raunch is more … an accoutrement, an activity, a slice of life, than it is a way of life for most women I know who might embrace it to some lesser or greater extent.

People are Dying to Have Funeral Sex …
I couldn’t resist the headline, could you? And we’re not talking about necrophilia. Or funeral orgies. We’re talking about the “after” life.

Thy Neighbor’s Wife, by Gay Talese, is back in print. I originally read it long ago, though probably not in 1980 when it came out. I was too busy getting out of college in the middle of a recession (sound familiar, anyone?) to have been picking and choosing from the bestseller lists.

I think Thomas Maier’s new biography of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the premier physiological sex researchers of the last century, is going to go to the top of the pile when it comes in … but I’m going to have to get over my slight annoyance at the tone of the Newsweek article that serves as the coming-out party for this Big, Awaited Book. It’s not so much that a 26-year-old wrote it. Andrew Romano did not do a bad job, considering.
