Having fun …

… and wish you were here.

I’ve been keeping really busy with sexual news, features and videos over at SexIs magazine … which is all rather obviously related to the Into Temptation book project but often keeps me from moving forward in tangible ways such as updating my own damned blog.

But you can see I’ve been keeping up on stuff if you take a look at the Google News feed for SexIs.

I will, however, get myself back on track for getting a book contract. My agent probably thinks I fell off the planet. However, she should (and will) be happy. Because a big part of getting to do this book has been getting into position to write it. Publishers ask: So how are you the right person to write this book? and my answer has been getting better and better.

Xaviera Hollander’s remembrance of Bob Guccione

Posted By on October 21, 2010

hollander, guccioneBob Guccione was among the most important figures of the last 50 years in sexual culture, and the financial setbacks of his later years should not negate that. His Penthouse was, for a long time, younger, hipper and hotter than Playboy, back when both actually meant something.

This morning, I did what I do at SexIs, including editing and posting Lorna Keach’s take on the sex news of the day.

And somehow, by the end of the day, I’m exchanging emails with Xaviera Hollander and posting:

The Happy Hooker Remembers Bob Guccione

“It all started with a friendly phone call from Bob who had tracked me down to Amsterdam in 1971 …”

Journalism and reporting and writing are just funny that way, sometimes. There’s not a lot of money in it, but you end up meeting the most interesting people.

Time Travel and Sex, in SexIs magazine

I get concerned about over-sharing sometimes, but it goes with the territory. It’s tough to write about sex and relationships without being aware that there is such a thing as TMI. But I’ve said before — my writing on the subject has to be informed by my own experiences, and I’m not really short on experiences. So here’s my latest at SexIs mag:

The Time-Traveling Wingman

What sex and relationship advice would you have for your younger self … and would a younger you have listened?

Coming Out Day: The Beautiful Kind

Posted By on October 11, 2010

I’ve been keeping pretty busy over at SexIs magazine lately, and a lot of things that I might write about here at IntoTemptation appear there in Sex Feed. I can’t see duplicating effort and it’s probably best, anyway, if I don’t procrastinate on actually doing book-related stuff by blogging willy-nilly.

But today, National Coming Out Day, I’ve got a story and video interview that you might want to go read and see:

Coming Out in SexIs: The Beautiful Kind

I’ve known Kendra Holliday for a couple of years and think she’s pretty terrific. We did a video interview via Skype and I think it came out pretty well. (It’s at the bottom of the story to which I link, above.)

I’ve got some funny out-takes as well but I don’t want to distract myself or anyone else from what Kendra has to say. “Coming out” means different things, depending on who you are. Being open about who I am, here, was kind of a process for me as well. I was semi-anonymous when I launched this blog in 2008.

SeXis magazine job

Regular readers know I’ve been doing some writing for SexIs magazine. It’s been a pleasure. They like my stuff, they have a talented staff led by former Playgirl managing editor Judy Cole and they actually pay writers. It’s work that fits in perfectly with what I’m doing with Into Temptation.

Now I’m  an associate editor at SexIs, as well, and I think I’ll get to meet more interesting people and work on some great projects. More on that as time goes along … This is a part-time gig, which should let me do my own related things and continue to write for the magazine.

More background on SexIs can be found on the SexIs magazine Wikipedia page. I’m pretty positive this isn’t going to be a dull experience.

And, oh yeah. Here’s my SexIs profile page. You should get one so you can comment on all the keen articles, huh?

Akismet: Happy Labor Day!

Posted By on September 6, 2010

Before, I forget, I want to send a big shout-out to one of the hardest-working apps on the whole Internet. Without Akismet to block comment spam, there would be no way to run an even mildly popular blog about sexual culture.

Happy Labor Day, Akismet!

Into Temptation gets *reamed* by comment spam. Every. Goddamn. Day. And Akismet catches almost all of it.

How reamed? This reamed. Here’s my current Akismet data:

Akismet has protected your site from 42,025 spam comments already, and there are 17 comments in your spam queue right now.

So Akismet has saved me from having to delete an average of about 70 spam comments a day over the last 21 months. Akismet does this for me for free.

Labor Day seems like the right time to say thank you.

You've Been Tempted.

Shadowy "Into Temptation" has been a forum about evolving social-sexual networks and how they have changed and are changing lives. In other words, we talk about dating and sex.

The original intention was that this blog would also chronicle a book project on the same subject; but that is in flux, on hiatus, perhaps meant for another time.
