The New York Times reports today — on the front page, no less — that Ma Yaohai, aka “Roaring Viral Fire” in the Happy Village online swingers’ community in China, was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison today for “crowd licentiousness.”

Law enforcement and the moralists ought to be glad of Craigslist’s cooperation. They most likely would not get it were the ads to migrate to an overseas web site, or spread among the thousands of other sites that carry such ads.

I guess it’s OK when the photo is of ivory carvings that are more than 35,000 years old.

Sunday Styles, indeed. Maybe The Times should stop trying to shoehorn sexuality stories into parts of the paper and, periodically, just run a sexuality section. It would no doubt be the best-read part of the newspaper.

My source of frustration … stems from the taboo that extends, obviously, even to hedonistic New York City. That even Miss Wanda asks that her enterprise not be recognized … that she does not want her real name in the newspaper, associated with her sex club … will say, to many readers, that she is ashamed of what she does.
Which she undoubtedly is not.
